NADA, India’s anti-doping agency and the Wrestling Federation of India have confirmed the news that the 26-year-old Indian wrestler Narsingh Yadav (74-kg freestyle wrestler) is out from the Rio Olympic 2016 stating that “Narsingh tested positive for a banned anabolic steroid”. He had given blood samples for testing on 5th July 2016.
The report of his ‘A’ sample test came out positive. Later, he was called for his ‘B’ sample test, which also returned positive. NADA Director General Navin Agarwal, “Narsingh was personally present when his B sample was opened.”
WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar questioned, “Why would anyone take such high dose, there was a high quantity of steroid in the sample, which is hard to believe. It seems like a deliberate thing”.
WFI had named Narsingh to represent India at the Rio Games. He was picked ahead of the double Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar to represent India at the Rio. Sushil’s demands for a trial were rejected by the Federation as well as the Delhi High Court after a lengthy legal battle.
Even after all this Sushil Kumar is not yet in the participant of Rio Olympic Games from India.
