Vaipava Nevo Ioane of Samoa won the gold medal in Men’s 62 kg Weightlifting event of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games lifting a total of 281 kgs.
Vaipava Nevo Ioane lifted 120 kilos in snatch and 161 in clean and jerk for an overall score of 281 kilos to win first ever Olympic medal for Samoa.
Julio Salamanca Pineda of El Salvador won silver medal finishing second with an overall score of 275 kgs lifting 120 kilos in snatch and 155 in clean and jerk.
Julio Cesar Gonzalez of Chile won the bronze medal finishing third with an overall score of 266 kgs lifting 120 kilos in snatch and 146 in clean and jerk.

In reality Vaipava Ioane ended the competition in 8th place.
Speaking from Rio, Coach Tuaopepe Jerry Wallwork said he was proud of Ioane’s efforts.
“It was a fantastic effort from Nevo just narrowly missing his last attempts which could have boosted him higher,” Tuaopepe.
