Germany’s Thomas Rohler won the gold medal in the Men’s Javelin Throw event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Saturday, August 20 at the Olympic Stadium.
24 year-old Thomas Röhler, who was making his Olympic debut, finished the competition first, with a throw of 90.30 meters that won him the Olympic Gold. His throw was just 0.27 short of the Olympic record, set eight years ago in Beijing Olympics.
Julius Yego of Kenya won the silver medal in the event with a throw of 88.24 meters. It’s the first medal Kenya has ever won in the javelin, for either men or women.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott won the bronze medal in the event with a throw of 85.38 meters.
Americans Cyrus Hostetler, Sam Crouser and Sean Furey all failed to qualify for the finals of the event this year.
