Argentine helmsman Santiago Lange and crew Cecilia Carranza Saroli won the gold medal in the Nacra 17 mixed-sex catamaran class Sailing event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Tuesday.
The team of Santiago Lange and Cecilia Carranza won the gold medal with a total of 77 points (the lowest among all)
54 year-old Santiago Lange, the oldest sailor at the event, won the gold medal, a year after loosing a lung to cancer.
This was Santiago Lange’s sixth Olympic appearance and first since 2008 and the medal is his third Olympic medal after having previously won two bronze medals.
The silver medal of the event was won by Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmanin of Australia who ended on 78 points after finishing second in the last race.
Austria’s Thomas Zajac and Tanja Frank also ended on 78 points, but were awarded bronze medal as they cam in third in the last race. This is Austria’s first Olympic medal of Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
