The Taekwondo events of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics will take place from 17 to 20 August 2016 at the Carioca Arena 3 inside the Barra Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
There are a total of eight medal events, four each for men’s and women’s.
In the event of Taekwondo, fighters score points by landing kicks and punches on the torso and head of their opponent – the fighter with the most points wins the bout.
The combination of accuracy, power and control in taekwondo fights, coupled with the grace and movement of the ancient martial arts, makes for an impressive contest.
The sport of Taekwondo made its Olympic debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.
