Bahrain’s Ruth Jebet won the gold medal in the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Monday.
19 year-old Ruth Jebet won the gold medal clocking a time of 8 minutes 59.75 seconds, narrowly missing Russian Gulnara Samitova-Galkina’s world record time of 08:58.16.
Ruth Jebet was well ahead of the pack with the next best athlete 8 seconds behind her.
Kenyan Hyvin Kiyeng Jepkemoi won the silver medal clocking a time of 9:07.12.
Emma Coburn of USA won the bronze medal in the event finishing third with a time of 9:07.63 to set a new American Record.
