Jeong Bo-Kyeong of South Korea had to settle with the Silver medal.
The two Bronze Medals for the event went to Ami Kondo (Japan) and Galbadrakhyn Otgontsetseg (Kazakhstan) who defeated Mönkhbatyn Urantsetseg (Mongolia) and Dayaris Mestre (Cuba) in their respective Bronze medal matches.
Tho host nation Brazil had high hopes from this event as people expected defending Olympic champion Sarah Menezes to win the medal in her home country. However she was defeated by Mönkhbatyn Urantsetseg of Mongolia in the Repechage Round.
