Cuban wrestler Mijaín López won the gold medal in the Men’s Greco-Roman 130 kg Wrestling event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Monday.
Mijaín López won the gold dominating the final match to defeat reigning world champion Riza Kayaalp of Turkey 6 – 0.
This is Mijain Lopez third consecutive Olympic gold, equaling the record set by Russia’s legendary grappler Aleksandr Karelin.
“I’m so proud of reaching the same level of the great Karelin, this is just a tremendous honor,” said 33 year-old Mijain Lopez. “It’s so beautiful to equal that.”
Riza Kayaalp of Turkey had to settle for the silver medal after loosing out in the gold medal match.
Bronze medals for the event were won by Azerbaijan’s Sabah Shariati and Russia’s Sergey Semenov defeating Eduard Popp of Germany and Heiki Nabi of Estonia in their respective bronze medal matches.
