Slovakia’s Matej Toth won the gold medal in the 50 km Walk event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Friday, August 20.
Matej Toth won the gold medal finishing the walk with a time of 3:40.58. This is his country’s second gold medal at Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Australian Jared Tallent, the winner of the event at London Olympics in 2012, finishing the walk second, 18 seconds later to win the silver medal, his career’s fourth Olympic medal.
Japanese walker Hiroki Arai won the bronze medal finishing third.
The racewalking event is competed as a road race. Athletes must always keep in contact with the ground and the supporting leg must remain straight until the raised leg passes it. 50 kilometres is 31 miles.
