Maracanã Stadium (Portuguese: Estádio do Maracanã) is one of the most famous stadiums in the world located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Basically a football stadium, the stadium will host the opening and the closing ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Sports : Opening and Closing Ceremonies and Football (semifinal 2 and finals)
Apart from hosting the ceremonies, the venue will host the second semifinal and the final match of the football tournament of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Originally constructed for the 1950 FIFA World Cup, the Maracanã Stadium was upgraded for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, when it staged seven matches, including the final of the tournament. It also staged the closing ceremony of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
It was the main venue of the 2007 Pan American Games and had hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of that tournament.
