Japan’s Kaori Icho won the gold medal in the Women’s Freestyle 58 kg Wrestling event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Wednesday, August 17 at the Hall 3 of the Olympic Training Center in Barra da Tijuca.
In the gold medal bout, Kaori Icho defeated Russia’s Valeria Koblova 3 – 2 to become the first female wrestler to win four consecutive Olympic gold medals. In fact she became the first female in any sport to win individual-event gold at four Olympics.
Russia’s Valeria Koblova had to settle for the silver medal in the event.
The bronze medals for the event were won by Tunisia’s Marwa Amri and India’s Sakshi Malik who defeated Azerbaijan’s Yuliya Ratkevich and Kyrgyzstan’s Aisuluu Tynybekova in their respective bronze medal matches.
