Hsu Shu-ching of Chinese Taipei wins Gold in Women’s 53 kg Weightlifting Event

Shu-Ching Hsu of Taiwan won gold medal in Women’s 53 kg Weightlifting event of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with an overall score of 212 kilos.

Yajun Li of China set a new Olympic record in the first round snatch by lifting 101 kilos and was leading but failed to complete the clean and jerk round and hence did not finish the event.

When Yajun Li failed, the gold went to Shu-Ching Hsu, who lifted 100 kilos in snatch and 112 in clean and jerk for an overall score of 212 kilos.

Hidilyn Diaz of Philippines won the silver medal with an overall score of 200 kgs lifting 88 kilos in snatch and 112 in clean and jerk.

Jin Hee Yoon of South Korea won the bronze medal with an overall score of 199 kgs lifting 88 kilos in snatch and 111 in clean and jerk.

Shu-Ching Hsu had won a silver medal four years ago during London 2012 while Jin Hee Yoon of South Korea had won bronze medal at Beijing in 2008.
