Handball at the 2016 Summer Olympics

In this game of handball, two teams of seven players pass the ball hand-to-hand and attempt to score by throwing it into the other team’s goal – the team with the highest score at the end of the game wins. Handball offers 60 minutes of high-tempo excitement, in which you might well lose track of the number of goals – it is not uncommon for both teams to score more than 20 goals.

The handball tournament made its Olympic debut at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.
