Great Britain’s sailor Giles Scott won the gold medal in the Finn class of Sailing event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Tuesday, August 16.
Giles Scott was already in a winning position in the points tally before the finals and he just needed to complete the finals to won the gold medal. He ended with a score of 36 points (lowest scorer wins), much below the score of next best contestant.
Giles Scott, had a poor start to the event, finishing 17th in his first race but improved through the competition, winning 3 of his 10 races, with 2 second-place finishes and 2 third place finishess to win the Olympic title.
Slovenia’s Vasilij Zbogar won the silver medal with a score of 68 points
USA’s Caleb Paine won the bronze medal with a score of 76 points.
This is Great Britain’s 19 gold medal and now they are placed at No. 2 in the medal tally of Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
