Germany won the gold medal in the Women’s Football Tournament of Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Friday, August 19.
Germany won the gold medal defeating Sweden’s women’s football team in the final match 2 – 1.
Dzsenifer Marozsan scored the first goal for Germany and then Sweden’s Linda Sembrant gifted them a second by scoring an own goal after Marozsan’s free-kick hit a post. Germany were leading 2 – 0.
Sweden’s Stina Blackstenius pulled a goal back from Kosovare Asslani’s low cross to bring them to 2 – 1, but Sweden did not manage to score any more goals and ended up loosing the match and had to settle for silver medal in the event.
Canada won the bronze medal defeating Brazil 2-1 in their bronze medal match.
Soccer fans in Brazil would be disappointed to loose that match and not able to bring home the bronze medal.
But they still have a chance to win Olympic Gold in Men’s football tournament where Brazil faces Germany in the men’s final on Saturday.
