German duo of Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst won the gold medal in the Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament of Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Wednesday, August 17.
The German duo defeated Brazilians Ágatha Bednarczuk and Bárbara Seixas in straight sets 21-18, 21-14 to win the gold medal match and secure the nation’s first medal in women’s beach volleyball. It is Germany’s 12th Gold medal of Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The German pair won four FIVB World Tour events in the 2016 season ahead of Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Host nations Brazil won the silver medal, taking their Rio 2016 medal count to 12.
Bronze medal of the event was won by the pair of April Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings from United States. They defeated Brazil’s Larissa França and Talita Antunes 17-21, 21-17, 15-9.
