The Football events of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics will be held at the seven different venues across 6 Brazilian cities from 3 to 20 August 2016.

  • Arena da Amazônia (Manaus)
  • Estadio Olímpico Joao Havelange (Rio de Janeiro)
  • Maracana (Rio de Janeiro)

In this game of football, two teams of 11 players must try to put the ball in their opponent’s goal, while defending their own. Only one player on each team, the goalkeeper, may touch the ball with their hands and arms.

The Football Event made its Olympic debut at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Football Events :

There will be two medal event namely – Men’s and Women’s Event.

Men’s Team Event : 16 teams will compete for 1 medal event.

Women’s Team Event : 12 teams will compete for 1 medal event.

Qualified Men’s Teams : Brazil, Argentina, Denmark, Germany, Portugal, Sweden, Fiji, Honduras, Mexico, Algeria, Nigeria, South Africa, Iraq, Japan, South Korea and Colombia.

Qualified Women’s Teams : Brazil, Colombia, France, Germany, South Africa, Zimbabwe, New Zealand, Canada, United States, Australia, China PR and Sweden
