Ferry Weertman of Netherlands wins Men’s 10km Marathon Swimming

Dutch swimmer Ferry Weertman won the gold medal in the Men’s 10km Marathon Swimming Event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Tuesday, August 16, 2016.

Ferry Weertman finished the marathon swimming race first clocking a time of 1 hour 50 minutes and 59 seconds to beat the Greek swimmer Spyridion Giannotis, the event’s oldest competitor by a margin of one arm’s length.

Spyridion Giannotis who also finished the race with a time of 1:52:59 was only a one arm’s length behind the winner and had to settle for silver medal at the event.

Marc-Antoine Olivier of France won the bronze medal with a time of 1:53:02, defeating China’s Zu Lijun, but a distance of less than a arm’s length.
