Kazakhstan’s boxer Daniyar Yeleussinov won the gold medal in the Men’s Welterweight Boxing event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Wednesday, August 17 at the Riocentro.
Daniyar Yeleussinov defeated Uzbekistan’s Shakhram Giyasov on points 3 – 0 to win his careers first Olympic Medal, and that too a gold one.
This is the fourth consecutive Olympic Gold for Kazakhstan in the Men’s Welterweight Boxing winning in 2004, 2008, 2012 and now in 2016.
Serik Sapiyev punched his way to victory at London 2012, Bakhyt Sarsekbayev in Beijing in 2008 and Bakhtiyar Artayev in Athens in 2004.
Uzbekistan’s Shakhram Giyasov won the silver medal in the event loosing out in the final match.
Bronze medals for the event were won by semi-finalists Morocco’s Mohammed Rabii and France’s Souleymane Cissokho.
