Brazil won the gold medal in the Men’s football tournament of Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Saturday, August 21 at the iconic Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
Brazil defeated world champions, Germany 5 – 4 on penalties as Neymar scored the winning penalty for the host nation to win their first men’s Olympic football gold medal.
The final match between Germany and Brazil had ended 1-1 after extra time.
In the shootout, Germany’s Nils Petersen had his penalty saved by Weverton before Neymar won it.
Brazil took an excellent revenge of the loss it suffered at hands of Germany in the 2014 World Cup semi-finals in Belo Horizonte where Germany trashed them 7-1.
Germany had to settle for the silver medal in the event.
Nigeria won the bronze medal of the event defeating Honduras 3 – 2 in their bronze medal match.
