Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Jack Sock of USA win Gold in Tennis Mixed Doubles

Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jack Sock from United States won the gold medal in the Tennis Mixed Doubles event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Sunday.

In an historic All-USA final, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jack Sock defeated the pair of Venus Williams and Rajeev Ram 7-6, 1-6, (10-7) to win the gold medal.

It is the first time that Venus Williams has lost in the final of Olympics Tennis event. With this silver medal she now has 5 Olympic medals in her kitty to tie the Olympic record for most tennis medals won by an individual. Previously she had won singles gold in 2000, and doubles gold with sister Serena in 2000, 2008 and 2012.

Lucie Hradecká and Radek Štěpánek of Czech Republic won the bronze medal in the event defeating India’s Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna in the bronze medal match in straight sets 6-1, 7-5.
