Archery at the 2016 Summer Olympics

The archery events of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics will be held at the Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí from 6 to 12 August 2016.

Sambadrome is the venue where the Brazil’s annual carnival takes place.

The objective of the Archery event is to hit the bull’s eye on a target from a distance of 70m.

The Archery Event made its Olympic debut at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Archery Events :

There will be four medal event namely – Men’s Individual, Women’s Individual, Men’s Team and Women’s Team Event.

Men’s Individual Event : 64 men will compete for 1 medal event.

Women’s Individual Event : 64 women will compete for 1 medal event.

Men’s Team Event : 12 teams will compete for 1 medal event.

Women’s Team Event : 12 teams will compete for 1 medal event.

As of January 2016, 38 Men (Individual), 38 Women (Individual), 9 Men Teams (Individual) and 9 Women Teams (Individual) have qualified for the event.

These spots have been grabbed by following countries -

Men Team: Australia, Brazil, China, Chinese Taipei, Italy, Republic of Korea, Netherlands, Spain, USA

Men Individual: Australia (3), Brazil (3), China (3), Chinese Taipei (3), Italy (3), Republic of Korea (3), Netherlands (3), Spain (3), USA (3), Venezuela, Canada, Colombia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mongolia

Remaining Qualification Spots will be decided by following competitions -

  • 2016 African Archery Championships (28 – 31 January 2016)
  • 2016 Oceanian Archery Championships (8 – 16 April 2016)
  • 2016 Pan American Archery Championships (10 – 15 May 2016)
  • 2016 European Archery Championships (3 – 29 May 2016)
  • 2016 Archery World Cup Stage (13 – 18 June 2016)
