Recently, the Indian Olympics Association (IOA) appointed Music Maestro, AR Rehman as India’s Goodwill Ambassador for Rio Olympics 2016.
He became the second non-sports personality and the fourth person to become India’s Goodwill Ambassador for Rio Olympics 2016 after Salman Khan, Abhinav Bindra and Sachin Tendulkar.
Oscar-winning maestro Allah Rakha Rehman said “it was an honour” for him to become a Goodwill Ambassador.
This move comes weeks after the Indian Olympics Association made headlines after selecting Bollywood superstar Salman Khan as their Goodwill ambassador for the Indian contingent for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The move that got stark responses came from all quarters.
AR Rehman needs no introduction. He debuted in the music industry with his musical hit ‘Roja’ (1992), directed by Mani Ratnam. Since then, he has contributed in more than 300 films, across more than 6 languages. He has also won the Oscar Award in 2009 for Best Original Song (Jai Ho) and Best Original Score for the film, Slumdog Millionaire. He had composed the theme song of the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games ‘Jeeyo, Utho, Badho, Jeeto’ and had performed the same in the opening ceremony of the games.
Now with such great goodwill ambassador on board, now all one hopes is for the Indian contingent to go out all guns blazing, when the Rio Games begin on 5th August, 2016.
