Ethiopians long distance runners dominated the Women’s 10,000 m Race of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games winning the Gold as well as the Bronze medals.
Almaz Ayana of Ethiopia set the new world record with a time of 29:17.45 convincingly beating the previous record of 29:31.78 set by Junxia Wang of China way back in 1993 to win the gold medal.
Kenya’s Vivian Cheruiyot finished second to win the silver medal with a time of 29:32.53 and also managed to set a new national record.
Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia came in third with a time of 29:42.56 to win the bronze medal.
Kenya’s Alice Aprot and Betsy Saina came in fourth and fifth with times of 29:53.51 and 30:07.78 respectively.
