Ahmad Abughaush of Jordan won the gold medal in the Men’s 68kg Taekwondo event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Ahmad Abughaush won Jordan their first ever Olympic medal – that too a gold medal, defeating Russia’s Alexey Denisenko in the gold medal match with a score of 10-6.
Russia’s Alexey Denisenko, who had won a bronze medal in London Olympics in 2012, won a silver medal this time around after loosing out in the final match.
Bronze medals of the event were won by South Korea’s Lee Dae-hoon and Spain’s Joel González, who defeated Jaouad Achab of Belgium and Edgar Contreras of Venezuela in their respective bronze medal matches.
Jordan has been taking part in the Olympic Games since 1980 but had never won a single Olympic Medal, till now.
